The Lightbox Gallery

A group of Year 8 students enjoyed an enriching trip to The Lightbox Gallery in Woking. They were treated to a guided tour of selected sculptures and had the privilege of exploring an exhibition by the renowned Portuguese artist, Paula Rego. To cap off the experience, the students participated in a studio workshop where they created clay portraits and learned about the key elements of facial proportion. It was a delight to see our pupils engage in mature and thoughtful conversations with the gallery staff, making the trip truly memorable.

Watts Gallery and Artists’ Village

Meanwhile, another group of Year 8 students embarked on an art trip to the Watts Gallery and Artists’ Village in Compton, near Guildford. Founded in 1904, the gallery offers a fascinating insight into the works of the artist/designer duo, George and Mary Watts. The students received an excellent introduction to the gallery’s collection from the Education Department and enjoyed a private viewing of a special temporary exhibition featuring the illustrations and designs of Cicely Baker, famed for her beautiful flower fairy illustrations.

Overall, both trips were thoroughly inspiring and enjoyable, leaving our students with lasting memories and a deeper appreciation for the arts.
