GB ROWING TEAM U19 TRIALS
A good weekend for Emily N (Y12) at the beginning of the February half-term holiday, in testing conditions in the flatlands of Boston. She raced to 5th place in Saturday’s single scull event, followed by an impressive 2nd in Sunday’s double scull division. The World Championships may still be over four months away, but the big testing weekends like these help build the foundations to make the large, competitive group of top scullers’ dreams a reality.

SWPS SPOTLIGHT PODCAST
Before Christmas, two of our leading GB internationals (Annabelle T Y13, Emily N Y12) contributed to the school’s podcast series, where they gave a great insight into our wonderful club, the sport they love and excel at, and some useful tips for chasing big dreams. Check out the link below to hear what they had to say. https://www.swps.org.uk/spotlight
THAMES UPRIVER REGIONAL TRIALS
A fantastic day in early March at Dorney for our leading J14-16 rowers, who competed for selection to make up the Thames Upriver Regional rowing team. After some encouraging 3rd place finishes for our J15 and 16 doubles, we were so impressed with the performance of our WJ14 4x+ (Sophia M, Lani B, Alessia GP, Georgia M, Chloe H), who topped the timesheet in their event and gained selection! This was closely followed by another win, this time for four of our J16s (Isla E, Jasmine I-S, Carmella S, Bella W) racing in a composite with our friends from Wallingford Rowing Club in WJ16 8+. This means we’ll be taking a record number of Perkins athletes to compete at the Junior Inter-Regional Regatta at the National Watersports Centre in late April!
WOMEN’S EIGHTS HEAD OF THE RIVER
On International Women’s Day in early March, what better sight than nearly 2500 women racing down the Tideway at WEHORR 2025! We were proud to be boating two senior eights, with an impressive first outing for the 1st 8+ (Anna S, Maddie M, Annabelle T, Emily N, Isla E, Bessie R, Daniya AQ, Amelie M), finishing 66th overall out of over 300 crews, and the 2nd 8+‘s (Millie P, Jasmine I-S, Olivia C, Carmella S, Bella W, Flora M, Emma W, Maddie B) time ranking 8th of the J18 B crews. A huge thanks to friend of the club, World and European medallist cox Morgan Baynham-Williams, who was a last-minute sub into the hot seat of our 1st 8+. Her experience and feedback to the crew before, during and after the race will be game-changing for our club’s lead boats as we near the end of head season, and look towards regatta racing!
RUNNYMEDE CIVIC AWARDS
There was a moment of wonderful recognition for Emily at the Runnymede Civic Awards last week, where she was the winner of the Young Sportsperson of the Year award. This was due to her fantastic J16 season, which culminated in a silver medal at the World Rowing U19 Championships! Congratulations to Emily from all of us – the whole Boat Club is very proud!
KINGSTON HEAD
A good long race ahead of the major March heads for our J15-18s, in wild and windy conditions!
