What a term it has been! Our music events started way back in the first week of September with several open morning performances from many of our music scholars to our glorious potential SWPS students. 8W kicked off our lunch time concerts with an astonising performance of the song ‘Electricity’ from Billy Elliot the musical as a whole class unit. Music events continued with gusto and pazazz at our Music Scholars’ recital, and a performance from the Chamber Choir and former students at our Senior Awards Evening a day later. Our first whole school community Remembrance service was a highlight in the school calendar with poignant readings and music to commemorate those who have served in our Armed Forces.
In the lead up to Christmas, the school choir busked their way through the SWPS Christmas Fair and even got a mention on BBC Surrey Radio. Celebrations continued with our Festive Favourites at the Christmas Concert followed the next morning, by the Mini Festival 9 Lessons and Carols in school assembly. Our traditional Festival of 9 Lessons and Carols held at St Peter’s Church with students joining forces from across the school to come together and create an outstanding evening service which was presented with poise, discipline and some exceptional singing and playing from our SWPS Musicians.
Not bad going for a first term here at SWPS, and I very much look forward to music, and ensemble playing, going from strength to strength in the New Year.
