This term SWPS hosted its first-ever Pride Week. The week-long event was a larger-scale version of the school’s previous Pride Days and culminated in a celebratory Pride Picnic and accessories day. Each day during Pride Week was dedicated to a specific theme, focusing on visibility, allyship, and celebration. One of the highlights of the week was a thought-provoking Diversity and Equality talk led by the school prefects. This engaging session explored the celebration of pride in different countries, providing students with valuable insights into the global significance of LGBTQ+ rights and pride events. The talk not only educated the school community but also served as a meaningful platform for cultivating empathy and understanding.
SWPS students showed their creativity, as the Equality Club organised a Tote Bag decorating workshop, with the proceeds being donated to AKT to support homeless young LGBTQ+ individuals. Other charity events in the week were the bake and accessories sales, where students could indulge in some delicious treats.
In the Atrium, a mosaic was on display, where students could contribute to this during break and lunchtimes by adding their own piece of card to create a stunning pride flag. This interactive and collaborative effort symbolised unity and strengthened the sense of community within SWPS.
The pinnacle of SWPS Pride Week was the Pride Picnic and accessories day, with the community coming together sporting vibrant accessories and enjoyed a joyful picnic celebration; the atmosphere celebrated the school’s spirit of inclusivity. As we reflect on the meaningful events of Pride Week, it is evident that SWPS has fostered a culture of acceptance and understanding and a safe and supportive environment for all students.
