Our Year 9 students had an enjoyable visit to the Winton Gallery at the Science Museum, which brought mathematics to life through its innovative design, architecture and fascinating display cases. They witnessed Zaha Hadid Architects creativity in designing the mathematics gallery at the London Science Museum. The gallery inspired our SWPS students with its bold, conceptual approach to showcasing the beauty and importance of mathematics in everyday life. Our students delved into sampling techniques such as simple random sampling, systematic sampling, and opportunity sampling. They also explored various mathematical instruments and intriguing exhibits, including a 1929 experimental aircraft.
During the afternoon our Year 9s engaged in a Maths trail around London, which led the students through some of London’s historic streets, starting near the Houses of Parliament and concluding in Trafalgar Square. The tour focused on measures, accuracy, and sequences, with the students visiting iconic landmarks such as Downing Street and the Cenotaph.
All the Year 9 students immersed themselves in this learning experience and had a memorable experience, which enriched their understanding of mathematics in real-world contexts.
