SWPS Year 8 students embarked on a three-day residential trip to Condover Hall, Shropshire. Condover Hall is an Elizabethan mansion which has been transformed into a residential centre for educational trips. Our Year 8 students engaged in a plethora of outdoor activities tailored to inspire and empower them. From thrilling adventures like abseiling, kayaking, and the gladiator wall to team buggy-building, students were provided with opportunities for personal growth, building confidence and developing life skills and team working.
Residential trips offer a unique and invaluable learning experience, extending far beyond the confines of the classroom. A testimonial from Paige in Year 8 highlights the enjoyment gained from going on the trip.
I found the year 8 residential to Condover Hall very fun and exciting. The coach ride was long but when we got there, we got to put away our bags and go to the first activity. Each of the six groups had different activities at different times but mine began with the gladiator wall. It was a fun climbing exercise. Everyone got to go and loved it. After that, it was dinner. Then we had a whole year activity: egg protect. We had to choose boxes and bags to protect our ‘egg’ (a water balloon) from different challenges, including hockey and kicking it across the pitch. That was extremely challenging but very fun. The next day, we all had our activities after breakfast and my favourite was kayaking. We were told we would get wet, but we were underprepared! We all were splashing each other and in an optional game at the end, we all jumped in. We were still wet for most of the day. The final day, we had one activity after breakfast before making sure all bags were packed. Then, we went to lunch before going on the coach to go back to school. I loved this trip and many of my peers agreed. I would definitely recommend it and would go again.
