At SWPS, we firmly believe that language is more than just a tool for communication. It serves as a bridge that connects different cultures and communities. Recently, our Year 12 students visited Staines Prep School, where they shared their love for the Spanish language and culture with Year 4 students. This initiative not only enriched the younger students but also had an impact on our Year 12 students, encouraging personal growth, leadership, and a deeper appreciation for the value of education.
In the second year of this initiative, Year 12 students became teachers for the afternoon, taking on the responsibility of introducing Year 4 to the Spanish language. Leading a classroom is no easy task, but our Year 12 students rose to the challenge with confidence and grace. They embraced the opportunity to guide younger students through unfamiliar territory, showcasing leadership qualities such as effective communication, empathy, and adaptability.
With boundless enthusiasm and a genuine desire to make a difference, they made sure that learning was not only educational but also enjoyable and engaging. One of the highlights was when the Year 12s sang ‘heads, shoulders, knees and toes’ in Spanish. Through these interactive lessons and creative activities, the SWPS students captured the imaginations of their young learners, igniting curiosity and excitement about the Spanish-speaking world.
A huge thanks to Ms Tomasi and the students for their time. The children all went back buzzing and the Y4 teachers said they all loved the session. Thank you to the fabulous students – they did an amazing job and were brilliant with the pupils here. They had clearly spent a lot of time preparing the resources.
