We had a morning exploring the Old Operating Theatre and Museum in the shadow of the Shard, with a ‘volunteer’ put under the knife for a suspected compound fracture. We also experienced an exploration of the many fascinating artefacts in the Museum, including various instruments and real body parts which supported the Medicine Through Time unit which we have been studying this term.
Lunch was taken at the eclectic Borough Market, which definitely had a Christmas feel!
We then headed across London to the Houses of Parliament. Having got through something akin to airport security and handing in our phones we first enjoyed a tour of the Houses of Parliament including Westminster Hall, the Members’ Lobby and the galleries of both the Houses of Commons and Lords, during live debates. We then learnt about campaign methods and had an interesting Q&A with our local MP, Dr Ben Spencer, where the students were able to quiz him on a range of topics from his thoughts on Party Politics to his favourite takeaway in Weybridge! Apart from a torturous journey home in the evening traffic, it was a day that we hugely enjoyed.
