This term, SWPS hosted its first-ever Pride Week. The week-long event was a larger-scale version of the school’s previous Pride Days and culminated in a joyous Pride Picnic and accessories day. Each day during Pride Week was dedicated to a specific theme, focusing on visibility, allyship, and celebration. Proudly led by the Student Leadership team, one of the highlights of the week was a thought-provoking Diversity and Equality talk. This powerful session explored the celebration of pride in different countries, providing students with valuable insights into the global significance of LGBTQ+ rights and pride events. The talk not only educated the school community but also served as a meaningful platform for cultivating empathy and understanding.

As part of the week, the Equality Club organised a Tote Bag decorating workshop, with the proceeds being donated to AKT, a local charity that supports homeless young LGBTQ+ individuals. Other charity events in the week included a bake sale and accessories market, where students could indulge in some delicious treats.

The Atrium was home to a Mosiac Installation with students able to participate by adding their own contribution – the result was a stunning pride flag. This interactive and collaborative effort symbolised unity and strengthened the sense of community within SWPS.

The pinnacle of SWPS Pride Week was the Pride Picnic and Accessories Day. The SWPS community came together sporting vibrant accessories and enjoyed a joyful picnic celebration. The atmosphere not only fostered a spirit of inclusivity but also provided an opportunity for individuals to express themselves freely and without judgment. As we reflect on the meaningful events of Pride Week, it is evident that SWPS has fostered a culture of acceptance and understanding and a safe and supportive environment for all students.
