Netball
Our Year 7 netball teams have had a flying start to their SWPS careers; the highlight of the term being a clean sweep for all four teams against St Mary’s, with a total of 61 goals scored and only 13 conceded, and an excellent win against Claremont Fan Court. The players have shown great improvement and teamwork this term.
The U13 netballers have been going from strength to strength, building on their progress of last year. The highlight this term was an excellent win for the A Team against Notre Dame, 31-1, with Freya and Rania as POMs. This result was swiftly followed by matches against Howard of Effingham with a 25-9 win for the A team, with POMs Sophia S and Rania, and a 9-5 win for the Bs, with Rachel H as POM.

U14 National Schools Competition
On Sunday 19 November the U14A netball team competed in the regional qualification round for the National Schools competition, winning confidently against Emanuel, 10-3, and Reigate Grammar, 10-6, and coming to within two goals against a very strong Guildford High team,12-14. The team had dominant wins against other top teams, including Alleyn’s and Putney High, who are the current national champions at this age group. They showed excellent perseverance and fitness to play all matches without any subs and often back-to-back.
In the third Round of the National Cup the U14A netball squad were matched against St Alban’s High School for Girls. It was a fantastic display of netball from both teams, with speed, skill and athleticism all over the court. As each quarter progressed the SWPS team got closer to the St Alban’s score, but ultimately the match was lost to a very strong and powerful St Alban’s team. Many congratulations to the SWPS squad, who gave it everything and played some amazing netball. Players of the match were Sanna G and Bethany B.
The U16 teams have had some good wins against Gordon’s and Notre Dame, with a particularly tight match against Gordon’s in the U16 National Netball Cup. SWPS emerged as winners, with Jasmine S, Sophie D, and Charlie B as POMs.
Surrey Netball Tournament
The U14 netball squad fought hard in their Surrey tournament earlier in the term, and had some strong wins against Croydon High, Wallington and Graveney. They scored a total of 61 goals, and only conceded 46. Meanwhile, the U16 team won four out of their five matches at the Surrey tournament, with a narrow loss in their final match.
The U18 Netball season started with the SOCS Gordon’s School Invitational U18 Netball Tournament which culminated in a narrow defeat by 8 goals to 9 against Brighton College. Later in the month the U18As had an incredible performance in the St Teresa’s Invitational Tournament, winning all their games and scoring 97 goals whilst only conceding 42. Well done. The winning streak continued with the U18s winning 24-14 and the U16s winning 24-15 against Notre Dame. The player of the match for the U18s was Emily G and for the U16s Sophie D and Kate L.

Hockey
Priors Field Hockey Tournament
Year 8 did impressively well at the Priors Field Invitational Hockey Tournament in September, competing strongly against fierce opposition. The A team finished the tournament tied top but finished 3rd as a result of goal difference. The performance was excellent throughout, however. The B team finished second behind Danes Hill, narrowly losing to the winners in the last game. A fantastic all-round performance by the whole squad.
Tormead Invitational Hockey Tournament
Our hockey teams showed some strong performances during the annual Tormead Invitational Hockey Tournament at the Surrey Sports Park. The U12 won the Plate competition beating Tormead in the final 4-1. The excitement continued as the U14 team won their tournament after a nail-biting finish beating St Teresa’s on penalty strokes with Lola K producing heroics in goal for the win. There were some outstanding improvements in both squads as the tournaments progressed. Congratulations.
The U15 Hockey squad finished 3rd in the annual Tormead Invitational Tournament, beating Christ’s Hospital and drawing with Tormead A who went on to win their group. They narrowly lost to Notre Dame in the semi-final 2-1 but beat Danes Hill in the play-off for third place. Player of the match was Tess S and a special mention goes to Sofia G for heroics in goal. It was a magnificent ‘whole squad’ performance
Congratulations to Lucy R on representing Guildford Hockey Club U12s in their International Tournament of the Inmaculada at Real Club de Polo in Barcelona. The team won and become Cup winners for 2023!

The swimmers were Imogen L, Nimaya R, Eleanor B, Sofia M, Ava G and Annabelle M.
Cross Country
SWPS pupils competed in the District Cross-Country Championships. There were excellent performances in our races across all age ranges. In addition to individual successes, the Y7 team came fourth overall (narrowly missing out on a podium place by 4 points) and the Y9 team came 3rd overall. Congratulations to Rose H, Ava G, and Amelie M who have all been selected to represent North West Surrey at the Surrey Schools Cross Country Championships at the County Championships in January.

Jersey Hockey Tour
The Year 8 Hockey and Netball tour to Jersey over October half term was full of matches, training and team activities.
Paige M shared her thoughts about the tour; ‘I loved the trip to Jersey, everything was so fun and well planned. The hotel we stayed at was amazing and the activities were perfect! We did many things including crate stacking, swimming, and going to the castle. Also, the sporting fixtures were great, even if we didn’t win them all, it was so well organised and fun to do. I absolutely loved the whole trip and am super disappointed it’s over. I loved how nice the teachers and staff were and hope to do something similar again soon.’
