The Chemistry Department congratulates Serena S in Year 8 for winning the Johnstone’s Paint Masters Snooker Waistcoat Design Competition 2024. Serena’s waistcoat design will be worn by the world snooker champion Kyren Wilson himself in the Johnstone’s Paint Masters tournament scheduled to be shown on the BBC in January 2025. Serena shared her thoughts on her design.
“Science has inspired me to create this design. Everything we see around us is made of atoms. I was very interested to see what the açai berry is made of. So I investigated the chemical formula of the composition of açai berry. This is a molecule of one of the structures in açai berry. I have drawn the colour of the benzene rings to reflect the colour of snooker balls and I have drawn a snooker cue as one of the bonds. The pigment in açai berry paint come from the açai berry itself, so I have drawn some açai berries. The background is the PPG colour of the year which is açai berry colour.”
Everyone here at SWPS is excited to see Serena’s design come to life at the tournament next year.
