As the current Head Prefects Team step down, the privileges and responsibilities of the job will rest on the new team: Eve, Bethan, Lucy and Siona. They agreed to meet me for an interview so that we could get to know them and discuss their hopes for the coming academic year.

Why did you decide to put yourselves forward for the role of Head Prefect/Deputy?

Eve: The main reason why I applied for head prefect was to give back to the school. I’ve had such a great six years and I think this is the perfect way to conclude my time at SWPS. The head prefects team have acted as role models to me for so many years, and it would be a privilege to have the same effect on younger students at the school.

Siona: Ever since I was in year 7, I had always looked up to the head prefects team and hoped, one day, to have the same influence over the younger years at SWPS. I hope we can be an approachable link between student body and staff.

Beth: I put myself forward for the role of Deputy head prefect as I would love to represent the school that has given me so much and I would love to be someone that the younger years can always approach if they need help with anything.

Lucy: I have always looked up to the head prefects team since year 7 and I feel it is such a great way to get involved.

Are there any areas that any of you individually would like to focus on – for exampe, charity events, eco, diversity and so on?

Eve and Beth: We are both eager to create a student mentoring scheme to increase the connection between the upper and lower school. We want to ensure that younger students at SWPS feel that they always have a sixth form ‘buddy’ to talk to and can also approach us with any concerns they may have.

Siona: Improving inclusion and appreciation of diversity within the SWPS is my main focus. I would also like to encourage volunteering to contribute to the local community.

Lucy: I would love to focus on the wellbeing support and resources

What do you think will be the most challenging thing for your team?

Eve: At times, it will be challenging to fully support the school whilst balancing academic and co-curricular commitments in a busy year for us all!

Siona: I think it will be challenging for us to understand what it is like to use primarily digitally-based learning on iPads in the lower years, as we did not have this. However, that will not stop us from trying to improve and accommodate to any feedback about this method of teaching.

Beth: I think the most challenging thing for the team will be to do as well as the previous teams have done

Lucy: Maintaining our high standard of commitment as A Levels get tough but I know we have each other’s back and can definitely achieve this.

What are you most looking forward to doing as a team in the coming years?

Eve: I am looking forward to working with our new head teacher and new head of Sixth fFrm to create an inclusive environment in SWPS where students always feel supported. Also, I think that representing the school at events and open days will be a great opportunity.

Siona: I am looking forward to getting to know SWPS students better and helping out at open events to represent the school, such as open evening!

Beth: I am looking forward to us working together to come up with new ideas that which believe could help to improve the school even more.

Lucy: Working with people and staff we haven’t worked with before

Finally, if your team could be remembered for one thing, what do you hope to leave as your legacy?

We would like to continue the legacy of the previous head prefects teams by having a meaningful impact on the school and would love to be involved with each and every year group in the coming year. We also have exciting plans to plant a head prefects tree that will be passed on to future teams.
