On the last day of term, the sports hall was packed with students and staff for an assembly to celebrate Mr Muller’s nine years of Headship and five years of Deputy Headship at the school. It was a moving hour of singing, music and reflection, led by the students.
Mr Muller has been an important part of SWPS for 14 years and Head since 2014. During this time, the School has seen the completion of a Sixth Form Centre, the Boat House and, of course, our ‘Excellent’ ISI inspection rating. Mr Muller helped navigate the School adeptly through a global pandemic and in spite of all the challenges faced as a leader, remained ‘in office’ longer than the previous five UK Prime Ministers.
Colleagues and students described Mr Muller with words such as ‘supportive’, ‘caring’, ‘compassionate’ and ‘sincere’. Always known for being calm in a potential crisis, and for having a very good sense of humour – with the greatest of British traits – the ability not to take ones-self too seriously.
To thank and celebrate our outgoing Head, our Head Prefects Team created a photobook of his time at SWPS with student comments. Our Friends of SWPS presented Mr Muller with a beautiful painting of the school as a thank you for all his years of outstanding service to SWPS.
Our rowers ensured that Mr Muller’s legacy will continue within our SWPS community, as their new 1st 8+ boat carries the name Chris Muller.
Mr Muller, we thank you for all you have given to the SWPS School community, we wish you well, and whatever your future holds, know that we will be watching with interest because, of course, in the spirit of SWPS – ‘Great things expected’.
