The SWPS Spring Music Concert 2024 was a notable event that united music enthusiasts and environmental advocates in a harmonious celebration. The programme aimed to raise awareness of issues related to climate change, sustainability, and compassion – all of which are central to the SWPS ethos. Demonstrating the school’s interdisciplinary approach to education and involvement, some of our Sixth Form students delivered informative presentations on global temperatures, rising sea levels, the environment, and empathy through faith. Talented musicians from the school community presented a variety of pieces, including the themes from ‘Jurassic Park’, ‘Listen with your heart’, ‘Africa’, ‘Spring’, ‘Seal Lullaby’, and ‘The Bird’s Lullaby’. The grand finale of the evening was Christopher Tin’s majestic ‘Baba Yetu’, performed by Vox Choir, Melba Choir, Symphony Orchestra, and SWPS Community Choir. This particular piece was the most challenging to perform, requiring singers to deliver their lyrics in Swahili. In preparation for this, SWPS students had dedicated time to learning this beautiful language from Donovan McGrath, a tutor at the African Studies Centre at the University of London, in order to deliver a more informed and polished performance.

We are so proud of all the students who participated in the Spring Concert, who all displayed remarkable talent, making it an enjoyable and thought-provoking evening.
