As the summer term comes to an end, it’s time to applaud the sporting achievements of the students at SWPS. From exhilarating athletics events to impressive victories on the cricket pitch and rounders field, our students have demonstrated talent and dedication in a variety of sports.

Athletics has been a standout feature this term, with our U15s in particular showcasing their agility and speed at the District Athletics Championships. Isla and Rosie excelled in securing podium places in high jump and shot putt respectively.

On the cricket pitch, our teams have exhibited skill, teamwork, and a deep passion for the sport. The U14’s first hardball cricket match against Freemens showed fantastic teamwork and resulted in a victory by 27 runs. The annual Inter-House cricket tournament, took place this term – congratulations to everyone who took part and to the winning houses, 7Q, 8M, 9P and 10Q.

Our rounders teams have achieved phenomenal success this term, with all three teams – Year 8, Year 9, and Year 10 – being crowned District Champions. Their skill and determination were evident in their impressive victories in the finals.

Sports Day was a showcase of athleticism and teamwork, with students competing in a variety of track and field events. The dedication and sportsmanship displayed by all participants were truly commendable. Congratulations to Quant for emerging victorious on Sports Day, and well done to Lonsdale, Montagu, and Quant for clinching the Year 7, Year 8, and Year 9-10 House competitions respectively.

At the Surrey Tennis Festival, SWPS secured a second-place finish in their group after winning three games and suffering just one loss.  The SWPS Junior and Senior tennis tournaments also saw intense competition, with Rachel H emerging as the Junior Trophy winner, and Lani B as the Junior Plate winner. Congratulations to Sofia G for securing the Senior Trophy, and Chloe A for winning the Senior Plate.

Our Year 7 students participated in a rugby taster session where they had the opportunity to practice passing and other skills. They received guidance from  rugby coaches Tom from London Irish RFC and Martin from Reeds Rebels.

Special congratulations go to SWPS’s Perkonian Ellie Monk, who achieved a phenomenal victory by winning the 2024 Helen Holm Scottish Women’s Open in golf.

Overall, the summer term has been a resounding success for sports at SWPS. These achievements not only celebrate the talent and dedication of our students but also promote physical activity and an enduring love for sports and fitness within the SWPS community. As we bid farewell to the summer term, let’s carry the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie forward, inspiring future generations to pursue their athletic ambitions with passion and determination.
