Lower School French students embarked on a cultural and historical journey to Northern France over the May Half Term, spending a wonderful four days in northern France soaking up French culture. A base in a château situated in its own beautiful grounds afforded exploration of the local market and sampling of a little cafe culture before visiting the extensive tunnels and chalk caves used to hide villagers in wartime.
Students were immersed in the history of the Great War and spent a fascinating day visiting real trenches, craters and memorials to remember the fallen. The final visit took students to a bee farm where theye learned first-hand about bee keeping and the production of honey. The journey was filled with genuine French encounters – from exploring the historic battlefields of the Somme to discovering the art of making homemade mayonnaise from scratch. From linguistic practice to historical insights, the trip offered a valuable extension to their classroom studies. What a varied and action-packed trip!
