Music has continued to be alive and well throughout the SWPS community over the past term. Year 7 found their voice in a series of class lunchtime concerts; students prepared solo and small group performances and we heard delights such as Annabelle performing ‘Another Dime’ on her Electric Guitar to a performance from Rachel, one of our Year 7 Music Scholars, of Ave Maria by J.S. Bach. Year 7 raised the bar with their part-singing in their class songs; Chim Chim Cher-ee, Let It be, True Colours and Sing by Gary Barlow.

As ever, our Music Scholars have been busy throughout this term. One personal highlight was our Scholars’ Recital which featured virtuosic performances of a Mozart Aria, Debussy’s beautiful Rěverie and a stunningly impressive performance of David Popper’s Polonaise for Cello.

Our end of term saw the culmination of several larger projects; our first ever Atrium Beatz gig as part of our ‘Be Yourself’ week gave students the opportunity to share their music with the SWPS community and to impress upon us all the importance of belonging and inclusivity, expression, and, most importantly, fun! Families and friends of the SWPS community enjoyed ‘A Night at the Movies’ for our Spring Concert where several of our co-curricular ensembles treated our audience to those classic film favourites for the evening. Many thanks to the FoSWPS for continuing to support our music events.

I wish all of our musicians a well-deserved rest over the Easter break. The summer term has much to look forward and dates for these will be coming to you soon. I hope you are able to share the joy of witnessing our SWPS students being their best selves in performance and all things SWPS. They are a talented and committed group, and I look forward to what the summer term brings.
