Drama News

It has been a very busy half term for the Drama department, with JD, Annie rehearsals, Drama club activities and a trip to see Blood Brothers at the New Victoria Theatre. Here are some of the highlights.

Junior Drama

Written by Amber David Year 13

Thursday 25 November was show day, and the finale to this year’s JD competition. To me, the highlight of the day had to be seeing our random ideas flung around a drama studio on a sunny July day finally be performed on stage. And the process was a whirlwind to say the least! We started knowing we wanted to write a mystery story solved in the end by a band of kids, along the lines of a Scooby Doo meets Secret Seven hybrid. To be honest, the line “I wouldn’t have gotten away with it if it weren’t for you meddling kids!” was in the script before we’d even written the first scene!

What truly made the performance, was our Year 8 class, 8P. Not only did they throw everything into their final performance, they committed and worked above and beyond from the start, practising the dance and their lines with each other at lunch. Ultimately, it was their determination and teamwork that led us to victory in the end. They were a pleasure to get to know and work with, JD provided a shared bonding not too often experienced with the 5-year age gap between us. Overall, it was extremely rewarding and taught us life lessons on leadership and persistence that we will never forget; I 10/10 recommend!

Blood Brothers – GCSE and A level Theatre trip.

We were delighted to be able to see Blood Brothers at our local Theatre in Woking last month. The classic story was brought to life brilliantly by the talented cast. For Year 10 and 11 it was a fantastic opportunity to see the play that they will write about for their GCSE exam. We all had a lovely evening, and the songs will stay in our heads for some time!
