Junior Drama 2021

We are ending the summer term on a high in the Drama department after the Junior Drama performances on Friday 2 July. The plays which were performed by each form in Year 8 were originally written by our Year 13 students, however when lockdown meant we needed to postpone the event they handed the reins to our Year 12 students. Managing the pressures of A levels alongside directing and producing a show is no mean feat and we are incredibly grateful to them for their unwavering enthusiasm and dedication.

In what has been an incredibly challenging year for everyone, we have been highly impressed with how well the Year 8 students have stayed focused and adapted their plans in order to see the project through to fruition. Despite lockdowns, delays and absences they all produced an original and entertaining piece of Drama.

We were delighted to welcome back not one, but two former SWPS students as judges. Both of them have forged successful careers in the theatre and entertainment industries and their shared knowledge of drama and music made them the ideal team to select this year’s winners.

Rachel Hudspith works in community theatre as a practitioner. She has been involved with projects at The National Theatre and many outreach programmes. Vikki Sparkes has worked as a performer, singer, stage manager and presenter for many years. We are really grateful to them both for giving up their time to be here.

The standard was exceptionally high and the judges had a hard time deliberating, but there could only be one winner and this year the Hawkins Cup for Junior Drama was awarded to 8M. Congratulations to Montagu!
