DofE Awards

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is extremely popular, with almost all Year 9 completing the Bronze award.

Sir William Perkins’s School is a Licensed Organisation offering the full Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) programme encompassing all three levels: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. The programme is recognised both nationally and internationally and is known to build confidence, resilience and leadership skills.

The school actively promotes the programme and is well supported by dedicated staff and a strong group of parent volunteers who help run the expedition section.  Our participation and completion rates are amongst the highest in the region with typically 95% of Year 9 doing Bronze with completion rates consistently above 90%.

At each level, students develop their own individual DofE programme that they can tailor to their own personal interests, skills and hobbies. They choose a volunteering, physical and skill development activity and must also complete an expedition entailing extensive walking and overnight camping. Our expedition locations include the Surrey Hills, Snowdonia, Exmoor, The Lake District and beyond, including Slovenia. At Gold level there is an additional residential section which gives students the chance to challenge themselves further, gain valuable life skills, embrace new experiences, have fun and meet new people.

Our students start their Bronze Level in Year 9 and move on to Silver in Year 10 and Gold Level in Year 12. Their success is celebrated along the way with Celebration Breakfast events and visits to Buckingham Palace for those who successfully complete their Gold Award.
