The Mission to Mars project is a cross-curricular initiative for Year 7 students, designed to foster teamwork and scientific inquiry by challenging them to collaboratively plan a crewed mission to Mars.
Students worked in teams across their science and DT lessons to design spacecraft, select fuels, analyse Martian soil, plan sustainable living conditions, and create essential equipment like telescopes and spacesuits.
These lessons were complemented by PSHCE sessions developing transferrable skills like teamwork and research.
The project spanned the last four weeks and culminated in a live presentation judged by peers and a panel of the Academic Deputy Head and Head Teachers, in which students confidently shared their work.
Judges said that the teams delivered clear and engaging presentations with strong visuals and well-researched, creative content, effectively covering a wide range of topics and demonstrating thoughtful collaboration.
Peers in the year group also gave feedback commenting that the presentations were informative and well-researched, delivered with clear voices and humour, and showed resilience and teamwork despite absences.
Congratulations to Bella, Emily, Manha and Nina from 7R; Anya, Lily, Claudia, Seira and Maya from 7S; Simran, Gigi, Lizzie and Ada from 7T; and Hattie, Evie, Sophie and MJ, also from 7T.
The overall winner has been decided from a combination of peer and panel scores and will be announced in the end of term assembly.
